Dr. Steven Shin just might be the biggest name in college football this week.

Dr. Shin performed a successful surgery on Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer's injured throwing hand on Wednesday, and as he had the Sooners' Heisman Trophy candidate's hand in his hands, Dr. Shin became a fan-favorite of Sooner Nation.

Social media was flooded this week of memes and posts about Dr. Shin being a hero for OU football, and Oklahoma's obsession with Dr. Shin eventually went all the way to the state capitol and even nationwide. The craze was already spreading throughout college football, but after Mateer himself confirmed his surgery was a success while praising Dr. Shin on Thursday, Shinsanity reached an unprecedented level.

Fandom of Dr. Steven Shin has taken over college football

Mateer only increased the love for Dr. Shin from Sooner Nation, even for OU associate head coach and defensive tackles coach Todd Bates.

Shortly after Mateer's confirmation, Dr. Shin was officially recognized for his heroism by Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond. That's when the college football world really realized the fandom of Oklahoma.

And while college football fans and media are usually divided by important figures in the sport, it seems Dr. Shin was able to not only help a fan base through a difficult time, but unite all of college football.
