Time for Super Sooners

The Oklahoma Sooners start Super Regional play in the NCAA Softball Championship on Friday night at Love's Field. The No. 2 Sooners will host fellow SEC member No. 15 Alabama for a three-game series with the winner going to the Women's College World Series.

Alabama is really the only program that has had OU's number. That includes the Crimson Tide winning two of three against the Sooners in a conference series during the regular season in Tuscaloosa.

The Norman Super Regional will start at 4 p.m. CT Friday on ESPN2. Game 2 will be 2 p.m. Saturday on ESPN. Game 3 is if necessary on Sunday.

If the Sooners win two, then they go back to Oklahoma City to defend their title as four-time national champions.

Sooners' SEC Baseball Tournament ends

The Sooners' run in their first SEC Baseball Tournament finally came to an end after a pair of wins.

The 12-seed Sooners lost to No. 4 Vanderbilt 6-1 in the quarterfinals on Thursday night in Hoover, Alabama. OU got there after getting revenge against Kentucky in the first round on Tuesday, then upsetting No. 10 Georgia behind Kyson Witherspoon's stellar performance on Wednesday night.

Now, the Sooners await their NCAA Tournament destination with the selection show on Monday. OU will hear its name called, but still didn't do enough to host a regional in Norman.

OU adds another QB

In a surprise move, the Sooners added another quarterback from the transfer portal.

News broke Thursday that Norman native Gavin Frakes is transferring to OU. He spent last season at Virginia after starting his career at New Mexico State, where he started five games as a true freshman.

That put the Sooners at five quarterbacks on their roster and four have already started in college football games before.
