OU softball in rubber match

The Oklahoma softball team is on the verge of losing back-to-back SEC series.

After losing to Tennessee two weeks ago in their last SEC series, the No. 2 Sooners rattled off four-straight nonconference wins before getting back to conference play this past weekend with a trip to No. 22 Alabama.

The series started Saturday with a 5-1 OU win to extend its winning streak to five games. But on Sunday, Alabama got the best of the Sooners 6-1 to force a winner-take-the-series Game 3 at 6 p.m. CT Monday in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The game will be on SEC Network.

Baseball nearly sweeps

The No. 19 Sooners clinched their third SEC series early on Saturday, but came up short of the sweep.

OU started its home series against No. 17 Vanderbilt with a 9-4 win on Friday night. Then on Saturday, in front of a record-breaking crowd at L. Dale Mitchell Park, the Sooners run-ruled the Commodores 14-0 behind Kyson Witherspoon's first complete-game shutout at OU.

But on Sunday, the Sooners dropped Game 3 13-2 to miss out on their first-ever SEC series sweep in their first season in the conference.

Bedlam is next when OU plays a struggling Oklahoma State at 6 p.m. CT Tuesday in Stillwater.

Trae Young in NBA Play-In Tournament

Sooner Nation has more than just the Oklahoma City Thunder to cheer on during the NBA Playoffs.

OU assistant general manager Trae Young, during his day job, has the Atlanta Hawks as the 8-seed in the East in the NBA Play-In Tournament. The Hawks will play the Orlando Magic at 6:30 p.m. CT Tuesday on TNT. The winner will advance into the playoffs to play the 2-seed Boston Celtics, while the loser will get one more shot to get in.

The West side of the bracket also includes two Sooners. In what's been a breakout season for him, Austin Reaves and his Los Angeles Lakers are the 3-seed in the West and will play the 6-seed Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round.

Buddy Hield and the Golden State Warriors will battle in the NBA Play-In Tournament as the 7-seed against the Memphis Grizzlies at 9 p.m. CT Tuesday on TNT.
