OU jumps in CFP rankings

The Oklahoma Sooners are finally high enough in the rankings to get a spot in the College Football Playoff.

The Sooners were No. 8 in the third CFP rankings of the season that were released Tuesday evening. They jumped three spots from last week's rankings after upsetting then-No. 4 Alabama on the road Saturday.

The leap put the Sooners comfortably in the playoff picture after being on the outside looking in the last two weeks. And not only did the No. 8 slot put the Sooners inside the 12-team field, but it's also good enough for them to host a first-round playoff game at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

Based on these current rankings, the Sooners would host No. 9 Notre Dame in Norman. A win would then match OU up with No. 1 Ohio State.

Sooners land 2027 commitment

Three-star 2027 cornerback Mikyal Davis on Tuesday announced via X his commitment to the Sooners after recently narrowing his options down to six programs, including Alabama, Texas, USC, Ohio State and Washington.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Davis is the No. 41 cornerback in the 2027 class and No. 8 overall prospect in the state of Arizona out of Desert Edge High School. Rivals ranks Davis as the No. 39 cornerback in the class.

Venables honest about RB situation

It's looking like the Sooners won't be 100% at running back when they play No. 22 Missouri on Saturday. Xavier Robinson and Tory Blaylock are both dealing with injuries after Robinson hurt his ankle in the third quarter against Alabama last week. And there's not much help behind the duo either at the position.

OU head coach Brent Venables during Tuesday's press conference was asked about the Sooners' situation at running back with Robinson and Blaylock banged up, and he was brutally honest about the team's depth at running back.

"Well it's gonna be tested, without question," Venables said. "Hopeful that we can stay healthy. We're gonna probably have to spread it out a little more to kind of manage in the next couple of weeks."
