Massive Red River Rivalry softball series

As if the Red River Rivalry wasn't already a big enough deal on its own.

The Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Longhorns will clash this weekend at Love's Field for a top-5 series with endless storylines. It's the first time the two rivals will meet since the Sooners beat Texas to win their fourth national championship in a row last year.

It will also be their first time playing as SEC foes. The winner between the No. 4 Sooners and No. 3 Longhorns will still have a chance at catching No. 2 Texas A&M for the SEC regular-season crown.

The marquee series will start at 5 p.m. CT Friday on ESPNU. Saturday and Sunday's games will be on ESPN2.

OU starts top-15 SEC baseball series with win

The Sooners made a statement that they're still an SEC contender with an 8-6 win over No. 10 Georgia on Thursday in Athens, Georgia.

The win for OU started a top-15 baseball series that will continue at 12 p.m. CT Friday and conclude at 11 a.m. CT Saturday. The victory also jumped the Sooners over Georgia in SEC standings to sole possession of sixth, at least for now.

Right-handed ace Kyson Witherspoon got the win on the mound for the Sooners. He went seven innings, giving up just one run while striking out eight. Dylan Crooks then got the save.

Transfer portal closing for college football

The days of wondering which player is leaving Norman next will be over, at least for a bit.

The college football transfer portal closes for the spring at the end of the day on Friday. It was open for a week and a half since April 16. During that time, the Sooners lost six players, none of which were ever major contributors.

OU's most recent loss came Thursday evening when it was reported that quarterback Cole Gonzales will enter the portal. He never played a snap for OU after transferring to the Sooners from West Carolina on Christmas Day. He was likely the No. 3 quarterback on OU's depth chart behind John Mateer and Michael Hawkins Jr.
