John Mateer up for another award

New Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer landed on a third preseason watch list for a national award. On Thursday, Mateer was on the watch list for the Davey O'Brien Award, which is given to the best college quarterback in the country. He was also up for the Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Player of the Year, which both go to the best overall player regardless of position.

First 2027 commit

The Sooners secured their first commitment from the 2027 recruiting class in offensive lineman Luke Wilson from Southlake Carrol High School in Texas. Wilson is already listed at 6-foot-7 and 285 pounds entering his junior season, but he's unrated and unranked by every major recruiting service.

Wilson's other offers included Florida State, Arizona State, TCU, UTEP, UTSA and Wake Forest.

More help with AD search

OU retained The Athlete Group to assist in its search committee to find the Sooners' next athletic director. The Athlete Group also played a part in recently hiring Jim Nagy as the Sooners' general manager of football.

The Athlete Group will join a 12-team search committee that's led by Chair of Football and Advisor to the President and the Director of Athletics Randall Stephenson, and also includes Bob Stoops, Sam Bradford and Sherri Coale.
