Crimson Combine is here
Oklahoma's Crimson Combine, which is replacing the annual spring football game, will finally become more than just an idea.
The Sooners will host the first-ever Crimson Combine on Saturday at Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. Gates for the event will open at noon before starting at 1 p.m.
The Crimson Combine will start with a skills showcase from each position group. Then at 2:30 p.m., there will be the Party in the Palace, where fans can get autographs from players, have picture opportunities and include other on-field activities.
Softball back to SEC play
After a weekend to breathe without an SEC series, the Sooners are back to conference play this weekend.
OU will travel to No. 23 Alabama for another three-game series against an SEC team. The No. 2 Sooners lost their last SEC series to Tennessee but have won four in a row since, including an 11-3 run-rule over No. 18 Oklahoma State on Wednesday in the only scheduled Bedlam game of the season.
The series against Alabama will get started later than usual, though. Game 1 will be Saturday instead of Friday, and the series won't conclude until Monday.
Baseball missing key player
Things continue to go south for the OU baseball team.
The No. 19 Sooners will start their home series against No. 17 Vanderbilt without ace Kyson Witherspoon, who is their usual Friday starter. Witherspoon has reportedly been dealing with back spasms and is still expected to start Game 2 on Saturday, but OU still has "TBA" for its Saturday pitcher.
In replace of Witherspoon, lefty Cade Crossland will take the mound on Friday night.
Game 2 will be at 4 p.m. CT Saturday, after the Crimson Combine.
