OU announces AD selection committee

Oklahoma on Monday announced its 12-person selection committee to find Joe Castiglione's replacement as OU's athletic director.

The group, led by Randall Stephenson, was headlined by OU legends Bob Stoops, Sam Bradford and Sherri Coale. Other members of the search committee included Holly Hunt, Armand Paliotta, David Surratt, Amy Noah, Steve Gensler, Kassie Crall, Kinzie Hansen and Dorothy Anderson. Castiglione will also be an advisor to the committee.

Castiglione announced earlier this month that he will fully retire on June 30, 2028, but will step down as AD once his replacement is found.

Mayfield's recruiting pitch to Mateer

OU landed new quarterback John Mateer out of the Transfer Portal this offseason with some backup from Baker Mayfield.

Mayfield over the weekend hosted his annual football camp in Norman and while talking to reporters he was asked about his recruiting pitch to Mateer.

"Obviously he was still deciding. You can't force anyone to do something they don't want to do. But I just told him everything I would have said," Mayfield said. "If you trust it, if you love it there, if you want a chance to go shine in a place that will truly embrace you for everything you are, this is the place to be.

"Tradition here, you can't beat it -- the atmosphere. Once you start winning, people will rally around you."

Son of OU great finds new home

Former OU wide receiver Marcellus Crutchfield signed with the North Texas Mean Green, according to Pete Nakos of On3. Crutchfield is the son of OU great Gerald McCoy and spent his first two years of college at OU, but played in only one game. He then spent two years at Division-II Fort Hays State in Kansas, then transferred to Toledo before ultimately ending up at North Texas for what should be his final year of eligibility.
