The college softball season ended a couple of weeks ago, and that signaled the start of the second season of the Athletes Unlimited Softball League.
Just as Oklahoma has dominated the world of college softball for the past decade, former Sooners are ever-present on the rosters of the six teams that represent the current league structure of the AUSL. Oklahoma leads all college programs with 14 former Sooners involved with AUSL teams.
That number includes 11 active players, two who are inactive and a head coach. The most former Sooners on any one roster is four as members of the Oklahoma City Spark.
Jocelyn Alo and Kinzie Hansen, who are in the league but currently inactive, plus Amber Flores, who played for Patty Gasso at Oklahoma from 2008 to 2010, is the manager of the Oklahoma City Spark. Alo and her husband, former Oklahoma offensive lineman Bobby Evans, welcomed a baby boy in early April, and Hansen recently announced she and her husband, Kobie McKinzie, are expecting their first child. Alo is with the Chicago Bandits and Hansen is a member of the Oklahoma City Spark.
Alo, who played for the Sooners from 2018 to 2022, holds the NCAA Division I record for career home runs (122), and until this season, held the Oklahoma program record for home runs in a single season (34). OU freshman Kendall Wells eclipsed Alo's season mark, hitting 39 balls out of the park this season.
The AUSL opened its second season a week ago. The regular season and runs through July 20. The best-of-three championship series between the top two teams is July 25-27. Each team plays 25 regular-season games.
UCLA has 12 former players on AUSL rosters this season, Florida has eight, Arizona seven and LSU six.
