Oklahoma's football domination over one team is unmatched

In all-time college football series of greater than 25 games, only one team has a winning record against Oklahoma. The Sooners have dominated most of the longtime series they've been engaged in over the years, but nothing like they have against one opponent.

Texas owns a 64-51-5 record against the Sooners in the 120-game history of the Red River Rivalry. The Longhorns were dominant in the early days of the series, winning 27 of the first 40 games. Since the Bud Wilkinson coaching era at Oklahoma, however, which began in 1947, the Sooners are 40-37-3 against the Longhorns, and OU has a 17-9 record versus Texas since 2000.

Oklahoma beat up on several former Big Eight and Big 12 teams. The Sooners own a plus-50 advantage in over 100 games against Oklahoma State, Kansas and Kansas State, and a winning percentage of .728 or greater against all three. But OU's football domination of Iowa State is unmatched anywhere in college football, according to college football historian Ken Jones.

Sooners are Iowa State's worst nightmare

The Sooners have won 80 of 89 meetings against the Iowa State Cyclones for a winning percentage of .910. That is unmatched by any Football Bowl Subdivision team against another FBS opponent in a series of 50-plus matchups. Interestingly, Iowa State won the very first game in the series with Oklahoma, defeating the Sooners 13-0 in 1928. The Cyclones also won three years later, evening the series at two games apiece. Since then, though, OU has gone 78-5-2 in matchups with Iowa State.

Other than against former Big 12 team Missouri (97) and Texas A&M (31 games), Oklahoma has no series with an SEC opponent longer than 15 games (Arkansas), and most are two or three games at the most.

Missouri is the longest running series the Sooners have against a current SEC team other than Texas. There have been 97 games total between the two longtime conference foes, with OU leading the all-time series 67-25-5. Mizzou won the first meeting between the two teams as members of the SEC, defeating the Sooners 30-23 last season at Missouri.

Oklahoma will have plenty of time in the years ahead to build up its series history as a now one-year member of the SEC. At present, the Sooners have winning records against Alabama (4-2-1), Arkansas (10-4-1), Auburn (3-0), Kentucky (2-1), Missouri, Tennessee (3-2), Texas A&M (19-12) and Vanderbilt (2-0-1).

The Sooners are 1-1 all-time against Florida but have ground to make up against Georgia (0-1), LSU (1-3), Ole Miss (0-2) and South Carolina (0-1). Oklahoma and Mississippi State have never met.
