Oklahoma fans are fed up as offensive line injuries pile up yet again ahead of Ole Miss

Nothing new...

There was once again enough big guys on the Oklahoma Sooners’ injury report to assemble an entire offensive line.

In what’s become the norm this season and last, five OU offensive linemen were included on the initial SEC Availability Report on Wednesday evening ahead of the No. 13 Sooners hosting No. 8 Ole Miss, which had nowhere near the number of wounded players as OU.

Derek Simmons, Logan Howland injury update

Most players listed weren’t surprises, but starting right tackle Derek Simmons was again listed as questionable after also carrying that label most of last week before ultimately playing against South Carolina. He reportedly suffered a concussion during the win over the Gamecocks.

Fellow right tackle Logan Howland was also listed as questionable on Wednesday. Jake Taylor is already out. Simmons, Howland and Taylor were the only right tackles included on the Sooners’ Week 9 depth chart.

If Simmons and Howland are both unable to go on Saturday, Luke Baklenko would likely switch from the left side and start at right tackle. If that’s the case, Baklenko and starting left tackle Michael Fasusi, a freshman, would be the only tackles available from the depth chart, leaving the Sooners with essentially zero depth at the position.

Offensive linemen Troy Everett and Jacob Sexton were also already listed as out on the initial report, but that was a shock to no one. Everett will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury, while Sexton hasn’t played since Week 1. Both also missed multiple games last season with injuries.

Whether it’s just rotten luck or a real issue behind the scenes, the Sooners have consistently had a lengthy list of injured offensive linemen the past two seasons, and it’s a trend Sooner Nation has grown beyond frustrated with, especially considering opponents never match the Sooners’ injured total.
