Unless interested in the fall of quarterback Shedeur Sanders, there was only one round of the 2025 NFL Draft worth watching for Sooner Nation wanting to hear Oklahoma players' names called.
OU linebacker Danny Stutsman and safety Billy Bowman Jr. were the only Sooners taken in this year's draft and both were selected only picks apart in the fourth round on Saturday, the third and final day of the draft.
The New Orleans Saints selected Stutsman with the 112th overall pick to be the first Sooner to have his name called in the NFL Draft. Moments later, the Atlanta Falcons grabbed Bowman with the 118th overall pick and no more OU players were taken after that.
Only two Sooners drafted for first time since 2002
When the 2025 NFL Draft concluded after the seventh round on Saturday, it was the first time since 2002 that the Sooners didn't have at least three players selected in a draft. That year, it was also another duo of a linebacker and safety with Rocky Calmus and Roy Williams, respectively.
It could be argued that was still a better draft showing for the Sooners, though. Williams was the eighth overall pick in the first round to the Dallas Cowboys. Calmus then went to the Tennessee Titans with the 77th overall pick in the third round, so both were off the board before any OU player was called in 2025.
With Stutsman and Bowman sliding to the fourth round on Day 3, it was also the first time since 2014 that the Sooners didn't have a player drafted during the first two days in one of the first three rounds.
There was another streak ended last year, as well. The Sooners' three selected players in the 2024 NFL Draft ended a 16-year run of at least four players selected from OU.
Entering the 2025 NFL Draft, OU had the most first-round selections and fourth-most all-time selections in the country, but, like their players' draft stocks, the Sooners' NFL Draft dominance could start slipping if this new trend continues.
