The Oklahoma Sooners just can't stop scoring.
OU was already expected to dominate the undermatched Alabama State in Thursday's 2026 home opener, especially considering how nearly unbeatable the Sooners have been at Love's Field, but no one could anticipate another historical performance from this powerful lineup.
The Sooners put up another football score and set a new program record for runs in a home opener in the 32-0 thumping. That total shattered OU's 17-1 win over Oklahoma Baptist in 1977 for the previous record.

It was obvious things would get out of hand quickly when the Sooners posted 11 runs in the opening inning. That ended up being OU's most explosive frame, as the Sooners notched 6, 7 and 8 runs, respectively, the next three innings before a run-rule went into effect in the fifth inning. Poor ASU starting pitcher Kohana Pousson last just 1/3 of an inning before getting pulled after giving up eight runs.
A whopping 13 players got an at-bat as Patty Gasso shuffled the lineup throughout the blowout, and every OU player who went up to the plate Thursday night got at least one hit. Every starter but first baseman Lexi McDaniel tallied a pair of hits.
Shortstop Gabbie Garcia and freshman Allyssa Parker were responsible for five runs batted in a piece as both hit a home run. Parker, who also plays outfield, did herself favors while starting in the circle. She got her first college win while pitching three scoreless innings with four strikeouts before fellow frosh Berkley Zache finished things off.
Kasidi Pickering and Chaney Helton also hit one out, while freshman phenom Kendall Wells continued her unbelievable start with two more homers to add to her team-high 12 this season. The Sooners entered the game averaging 3.73 home runs a game, which was already the best in the country even before bettering their average with six.

The most unfathomable part about the Sooners' 32-run outburst is that it's not even the most they've scored in a game this season. OU beat UTEP 34-0 in five innings just two weeks ago.
Haters will point out the level of competition in these blowouts, but at this point in the season, every Power Four conference team is playing cupcakes, yet none are putting up the numbers OU has been as the highest-scoring team in college softball, even before posting another football score.
The Sooners' first home stand of the 2026 season will continue with a doubleheader against Sam Houston State and Alabama State on Friday. OU will then play both teams again on Saturday before hosting Southeastern Louisiana on Sunday.
