Oklahoma softball pitcher Sam Landry has made eight starts this season and won them all. She also won a game she didn't start for a perfect nine wins without a loss.
The transfer from Louisiana won a pair of games last weekend versus Missouri, allowing just one run on five hits over 12 innings. This week, she was honored as SEC Pitcher of the Week, the third time she has been so honored this season. Landry won the same award last week.
Landry has quickly assumed the role of ace of the Oklahoma pitching staff. The right-hander started Friday night's 8-0 Sooner win and returned to the circle for the series finale on Sunday to lead OU to a 5-1 victory to win the series.
Both of Landry's starts this past weekend were complete-game wins. In Friday night's win, she pitched a five-inning shutout, giving up just one hit and striking out four. The OU newcomer was equally impressive two days later, going the full seven innings, allowing four hits and striking out nine batters. She also did not issue a walk on Sunday.
The Sooner ace owns a 1.04 earned run average this season, a 1.68 opponents' batting average and 82 strikeouts. Landry ranks fifth in Division I softball this season with an 11.71 strikeout-to-walk ratio, third in WHIP (0.71) and 10th in ERA. She also has three saves this season.
Landry's next start is expected to come Friday at Love's Field in Norman against No. 10 Tennessee.
