LSU fans are probably going to be tired of seeing or hearing about Oklahoma athletic teams after another Sooner team comes calling to Baton Rouge this weekend.

One week after the Oklahoma baseball team took two of three games on the road from the reigning national champion LSU team, Patty Gasso's No. 3 Sooner softball team will be in town over the weekend looking to do even more damage on the softball diamond.

The Sooners (32-2, 6-0) will arrive in Baton Rouge riding a 21-game winning streak fired by an offense that leads the nation in multiple statistical categories. Pitching coach Jennifer Rocha is also expected to return from a health matter and join the team for the first time this season.

Oklahoma has completed sweeps in both of its SEC series this season so far over Auburn at home and Ole Miss on the road last weekend. In 10 conference series in two seasons in the SEC, the Sooners have taken all three games in five of them.

The 2026 series with LSU will be the 21st, 22nd and 24th games between the two teams all-time. Oklahoma is 12-8 in the previous meetings and 2-3 in Baton Rouge. The Sooners and Tigers did not play each other in the regular season a year ago, but did meet in the SEC tournament, with Oklahoma prevailing 4-1.

The game on Friday night will streamed on SEC Network+ beginning at 6 p.m. CT. The games on Saturday and Sunday are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday's game can be viewed on SEC Network. The game on Sunday will be televised on ESPN.

What to know about LSU

LSU is 22-10 overall and ranked 20th in the country, according to the ESPN/USA Softball poll, but the Tigers did not go up against many quality teams before the start of SEC play. They have played three straight conference series against ranked teams against then-No. 1 Tennessee, No. 16 Texas A&M and No. 21 South Carolina, and are just 3-6 in those games. The Tigers have managed to win three of their last four, though.

While Oklahoma has eight hitters in its starting lineup in any given game with a batting average of .429 or better, LSU's leading hitter, junior utility player Sierra Daniel, is hitting .337 and is one of just two players in the lineup above .300.

When LSU strikes scores first in the game this season, the Tigers are 17-2. LSU has outscored its opponents 98-41 in the first three innings this season.

Pitching is the strength of the 2026 edition of LSU softball. The LSU pitching staff has a 2.80 ERA with 162 strikeouts, eighth-best in the 15-team SEC and one spot back of the OU staff. Sophomore southpaw Jayden Heavener is the ace of the staff with a record of 7-6 and a 2.79 ERA in 11 starts. She has struck out 68 hitters in 77.2 innings this season. The Sooners will likely also see fifth-year senior Tatum Clopton this weekend. The right-hander is 6-1 in seven starts, with an ERA of 2.10 and 23 strikeouts in 36.2 innings.

What to know about Oklahoma

Oklahoma continues to lead the SEC and the nation in 11 major offensive categories: Batting average (.442), hits (418), home runs (129, 29 more than the next closest team), home runs per game (3.79), on-base percentage (.534), RBI per game (12.35), total RBI (420), runs per game (12.65), slugging percentage (926), total runs (430) and walks (178).

Sooner freshman center fielder Kai Minor leads all freshmen with a batting average of .505, and OU freshman catcher Kendall Wells is the nation-leader among all players with 25 home runs. The Oklahoma record for a single season is 34, set twice by Jocelyn Alo in 2021 and '22. Wells is six away from breaking the NCAA all-time season home-run record for a freshman.

While LSU's most productive innings on offense this season are the first through third, Oklahoma's biggest inning is the fourth. The Sooners have scored 88 runs in the fourth inning, 84 more than their opponents.

Forty-six times this season Oklahoma has scored four or more runs in an inning.

Also of note

The power numbers of Oklahoma and LSU are starkly different. OU has 129 team home runs through 34 games; LSU has hit a total of 29 home runs through 32 games. Wells' 25 home runs is almost as many as the entire LSU team.

Two former Oklahoma players are currently on the LSU roster. Infielder Avery Hodge played on the 2023 and 2024 Oklahoma national championship teams before transferring to LSU after her sophomore season. She has appeared in 26 games and is hitting .157 this season. Pitcher Paytn Monticelli spent two seasons at OU in 2024 and '25 before transferring to LSU. LSU is her third destination. She played for Michigan as a freshman in 2023. She has a 3-1 record in five starts and 10 appearances for the Tigers this season.

OU pitcher Sydney Berzon also just transferred from LSU this offseason as the No. 1 player in the Transfer Portal.
