Apparently dismantling a rival wasn't impressive to voters of the Associated Press Top 25.
The Oklahoma men's basketball team dropped one spot to No. 14 in the most recent AP Top 25 that was released Monday. The expectation was for the 10-0 Sooners to debut inside the top 10, but instead, they not only remain in the top 15, but even slipped a spot.
In the USA Today Coaches poll, OU went from No. 17 to just inside the top 15 at No. 15.
The drop in the AP Top 25 came after the Sooners thumped Oklahoma State 80-65 on Saturday night in Oklahoma City in the only Bedlam game of the season with the in-state rivals now in different conferences. OU never trailed in the neutral site game as Oklahoma native Sam Godwin led all scores with a career-high 20 points, plus 14 rebounds to record a double-double.
The win put the Sooners at 10-0 as one of only five undefeated teams left in the country. The others are Florida, Drake, Tennessee and Utah State. The other unbeaten Power Four teams -- Florida and Tennessee -- are both inside the top 10 with the Volunteers at No.1.
Teams that jumped the Sooners in the most recent AP Top 25 were Texas A&M and UConn. The Huskies upset then-No. 8 Gonzaga 77-71 on Saturday while the Aggies took down then-No. 11 Purdue 70-66. Gonzaga, after suffering its third loss of the season, was slotted into the No. 13 spot that OU had last week and bumped the Sooners down.
Next, the Sooners will get their second game of the season against a top-25 opponent. OU will play No. 24 Michigan at 8 p.m. Wednesday as part of the Jumpman Invitational. The Wolverines just plummeted 10 spots after losing to Arkansas 89-87 on Tuesday.
OU already upset then-No. 24 Arizona 82-77 earlier in the season in the semifinals of the Battle 4 Atlantis.
