Somehow, what the most dominant program in the country is doing is going unnoticed throughout college softball.
The Oklahoma Sooners on Monday stayed put at No. 5 in the latest Softball America College Softball Rankings and have been unable to move up recently in any of the major national rankings despite clearly being superior during a 20-game winning streak as voters seem to not be paying any attention to Norman.
Sooners getting overlook in top 25 while dominating competition
The rest of the top 5 ahead of the Sooners included three other SEC teams with Texas, Texas Tech, Florida and Tennessee, respectively, making up the top. In total, 10 of 15 SEC programs were represented in that latest set of rankings, including No. 6 Alabama, No. 9 Arkansas, No. 11 Georgia, No. 14 Mississippi State, No. 17 Texas A&M and No. 20 LSU. That makes for plenty of opportunity for the Sooners to prove themselves since what they're doing right now apparently isn't enough.

The 31-2 Sooners will look to complete another three-game sweep in SEC play with another win over Ole Miss on Monday evening. OU run-ruled the Rebels, who were receiving votes in rankings, in the first two games on Saturday and Sunday. The Sooners also swept Auburn with a pair of run-rule victories last week in their SEC opener.
That proves the Sooners have remained absolutely dominant even as the level of competition has risen with conference play here against a loaded SEC. The early argument against OU rising in rankings was its lackluster schedule, but that will no longer be the case going forward, and even against lesser opponents, the Sooners still crushed like top teams should.
Of the Sooners' 20-game winning streak, a staggering 17 were by run-rule. OU already holds the NCAA record for most run-rule victories in a season with 40 in 2022. With 25 already this year and with a minimum of 22 games still on the schedule, the Sooners could go down as the most dominant team in college softball history. Yet, rankings voters still can't get past the Sooners' only bad day when they last lost to Long Beach State 6-4 on Feb. 21.
Other than Texas at No. 1, every team ahead of the Sooners also has at least two losses, while Tennessee has three. And none have been as dominant in wins as the Sooners, who are hitting more home runs than any team in college softball history.
What the Sooners are proving is that rankings don't really matter while being based more on opinions and early impressions instead of actual results.
