In the midst of trying to find their quarterback from the 2028 recruiting class, the Oklahoma Sooners already handed out an offer to a 2029 quarterback prospect.
Logan Lucero on Tuesday announced an offer from the Sooners as their first offer so far to a quarterback from the 2029 class. Overall, OU has already dished out 11 extremely offers to 2029 prospects, according to 247Sports.
Sooners offer Logan Lucero early as future top QB prospect
OU offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle is known for jumping on quarterback prospects early before their recruitment explodes, but this is premature even for Arbuckle. Lucero is just now finishing up his freshman year at Parish Episcopal High School in Dallas, Texas, where he started last year as a frosh. However, it's hard to blame Arbuckle for the offer based on what Lucero has already shown, especially since he's already listed at 6-foot-2 and 215 pounds.

New tight ends coach Jason Witten was also able to give Arbuckle an early heads-up on Lucero since when Witten was leading Liberty Christian School last year, Lucero's Parish Episcopal High School handled Witten's squad 56-28.
Last year in his first season of varsity football, Lucero completed 62.6% of his passes for 2,478 yards and 27 touchdowns compared to only three interceptions in 13 games. He also rushed for 266 yards. He produced that while leading his team to a 12-1 record and state title in the TAPPS Division I District 1.
Great team win for our first district game against Legacy!

It's still too early for recruiting ratings and rankings for 2029 prospects, but it's already clear that Lucero will have a lot of stars next to his name one day. OU also isn't the only major college football program already taking notice of him, either, even before recruiting outlets.
Lucero already has nearly 20 FBS offers from the likes of Arkansas, Auburn, Baylor, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, SMU, TCU, Tennessee, Texas Tech, Utah, Vanderbilt and other Group of Six programs. His recent offers from OU, Notre Dame and Ole Miss all came within 24 hours as his recruitment explodes.
This will eventually be a loaded race for a top quarterback target that OU's early offer will hopefully again be a major benefit.
