Oklahoma football general manager Jim Nagy got his right-hand man.
Pete Nakos of On3 reported Tuesday that OU has hired Taylor Redd as assistant general manager under new football general manager Jim Nagy, who was hired on Feb. 26.
Nagy said during his first press conference after being hired that the Sooners would expand their front office staff, and he planned to add more people with NFL experience like him since OU is trying to mirror an NFL franchise in this new age of college football. The hire of Redd backs up that statement and shows Nagy's plan is a full go now.
Most recently, Redd was a senior consultant for The Athlete Group, which actually partnered with OU in the search to hire Nagy. It seems that previous connection helped lead Redd to Norman.
Founded by Jake Rosenberg just last year, according to its website, The Athlete Group, "is dedicated to redefining roster management, financial strategy, and team operations in collegiate athletics."
The Athlete Group also assisted OU with its NIL deal with new quarterback John Mateer, according to multiple repots. That deal is reportedly worth $3 million over two years. According to Nakos, Redd worked alongside OU coach Brent Venables while the Sooners assembled their recent winter transfer class.
Before joining The Athlete Group, Redd was a scout for the New England Patriots for six seasons under Bill Belichick until 2024. He was also the director of player personnel at Wake Forest in 2017-18 before heading to the NFL.
Redd has similar experience to Nagy, who was also an NFL scout and had experience in the college football landscape as Executive Director of the Senior Bowl.
This shouldn't be Nagy's last hire of the offseason as he hopes to bolster OU's front office staff. It was expected OU would add an assistant GM, but it's still unknown what all positions will be added under Nagy.
