In the midst of Transfer Portal chaos and trying to add talent that can immediately help, the Oklahoma Sooners are also still after future impact players.
On Monday, 2028 running back Micah Rhodes included the Sooners in his top 3 schools, and on the same day, offensive lineman R'Monie Edwards from the same class also announced an OU offer to hopefully one day pave the way for Rhodes at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
Sooners in recruiting battles for Micah Rhodes and R'Monie Edwards
The Sooners and running backs coach DeMarco Murray are the only chance Rhodes leaves his home state in a recruiting battle that includes Big 12-turned-SEC foes OU, Texas and Texas A&M. According to the 247Sports Composite, Rhodes, a four-star recruit, is the No. 3 running back in the 2028 class and No. 40 overall prospect in the country. He's also the No. 4 player in the state of Texas out of Klein Oak High School.

Even while competing at the highest level Texas has to offer, Rhodes still exploded as a freshman in 2024 for 934 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns while earning MaxPreps Freshman All-American honors. He was then named a Sophomore All-American in 2025 after posting 172 carries for 1,307 yards and 21 TDs, according to MaxPreps.

If Rhodes does choose the Sooners, he'll need somebody in front of him blocking, and that's where the Sooners hope Edwards comes in. Edwards already has five-star status, according to the 247Sports Composite, and is the No. 2 offensive tackle in the class and No. 15 national prospect. Also from Texas out of Cy Ranch High School, Edwards is the top player in the state. By itself, 247Sports ranks Edwards as the best tackle and No. 3 overall player in the class.
Edwards' list of offers also includes Texas, Florida State, Ole Miss, Nebraska, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and more as the Sooners enter a recruiting battle that will certainly grow before a decision is made.
So far, the Sooners haven't picked up a commitment for their 2028 class, but it's still extremely early in the process as they're focused on rounding out the 2026 class and assembling a 2027 group that's No. 1 in the country.
