John Mateer was welcomed with opened arms.
The quarterback position always gets a lot of attention -- more bad than good this season in Norman -- but especially when the best player available is coming to play the position for the Sooners. And could be for the next two years as just a sophomore.
Mateer was responsible for more total touchdowns than any player in FBS this season -- 44. He threw for 3,139 yards and 29 TDs. He rushed for 826 yards and 15 TDs.
That success and becoming a Sooner already has Mateer with the third-best odds to win the Heisman Trophy in 2025, according to BetOnline. So Sooner Nation has justifiably been ecstatic of Mateer's addition to OU, including players.
And no one might be more thrilled than the main guy who gets to catch passes from Mateer, Deion Burks, who last week announced he would finish his college career with OU.
And Burks isn't the only happy Sooner.
Actually, there are happy Sooners everywhere, even outside the locker room, because the Sooners are back.
And now let the excitement for 2025 build.
