The headline from The Denver Post on Sunday could have been used at the top of the Norman Transcript: "Marvin Mims Jr., Nik Bonitto and Denver end seven seasons of losing football at Mile High."
The Denver Broncos are on a four-game winning streak and are fighting for a playoff spot at 9-5 largely thanks to a pair of Sooners. Mims and Bonitto have been crucial in the Broncos' success all season, but especially in their most recent win.
In the 31-13 victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, Bonitto found the end zone for the second time in as many games. The Colts attempted a trick play, but when receiver Adonai Mitchell threw a reverse pass across the field, Bonitto saw it coming and jumped the pass to return it 50 yards for a score. The play went down as a fumble returned for a TD on the stat sheet since the pass was backward.
Only two weeks ago in the Broncos' last game against the Cleveland Browns, Bonitto picked off Jameis Winston and returned the interception for a 71-yard TD.
In that same game a quarter later, Mims caught a 93-yard TD pass while streaking down the middle of the field.
But that wasn't the only game the two Sooners were making the biggest plays of the game. On Sunday in the fourth quarter, only moments before Bonitto's TD, Mims returned a punt for 61 yards to the Colts' 15-yard line. Two plays later, the Broncos had another seven points on the board thanks to Mims' monstrous return.
The very next possession was when Bonitto scored.
Although Oklahoma won't be present in the first 12-team College Football Playoff, there should be plenty of Sooners to watch in the NFL playoffs. Baker Mayfield is leading the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to the NFC South divisional title. Jalen Hurts and the Eagles have already clinched a playoff berth and most likely the NFC East soon.
And the Denver Sooners are also making a run to compete for a Super Bowl, as well.
