Oklahoma commits waste no time pressuring late target to snub Nebraska

The Nebraska Cornhuskers might try to avoid the Oklahoma Sooners on the football field, but sometimes they're still forced to renew the old rivalry on the recruiting trail.

Chad Simmons of Rivals reported on Monday that the Sooners are surging late for 2027 four-star cornerback Bryce Williams, and it's become a two-team race between OU and Nebraska heading into official visit season. For OU fans, though, the choice seems pretty obvious between those options as Sooner commits are also trying to help their future team win the recruiting battle.

Sooners rising fast in race for Bryce Williams after late offer

OU 2027 defensive line commit Elija Harmon and safety commit Jaylen Scott both immediately used social media to influence Williams to choose the Sooners and join their recruiting class that's one of the best in college football. Scott has been active on social media in helping recruit new talent to the group ever since he committed himself in early March.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Williams is the No. 36 cornerback in the 2027 class as a consensus four-star recruit. He's also the No. 28 player in the talent-rich state of Florida. He would add a lot of length to a secondary at 6-foot-2.

It's not just OU and Nebraska after Williams, either. Clemson has also been near the top of his list, even before the Sooners started their pursuit. His other offers include Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia, Florida, Florida State, Indiana, Kentucky, LSU, Louisville, Miami, Michigan, Mississippi State, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio State, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, USC and more.

Beating out Nebraska and a host of SEC rivals would be a massive offseason win for the Sooners after not even extending an offer until last week.

According to Rivals, Williams has official visits lined up for this summer to Oklahoma on May 29 and Nebraska on June 5, setting up a decision early this summer. 247Sports, though, had listed visits to Clemson on May 29 and to North Carolina on June 12 for Williams. It seems the ACC programs have been dropped from the mix now, though.

Williams would be the third cornerback added to the Sooners' 2027 recruiting class that has 21 total commits so far. He would join four-star Mikhail McCreary of Texas and three-star Mikyal Davis from Arizona. McCreary is the No. 23 corner in the class while Davis is at No. 48, putting Williams right between both.

Landing Williams would be a massive recruiting flex for head coach Brent Venables and the Sooners if they manage to outduel Nebraska and a list of SEC programs for a talented prospect after entering the mix extremely late.
