The work that Oklahoma and Brent Venables have been able to get done thus far for the 2027 class has been downright sensational. As of this writing, Venables and Co. have picked up 21 commitments, with 247Sports ranking the haul No. 2 in the country. Could 4-star playmaker Bode Sparrow be ready to add his name to the list soon?
Gerald McCoy helping Oklahoma recruit an elite target for Brent Venables is surreal
There are plenty of signs pointing in that direction, as the Utah product is all set to take his official visit to Norman on May 29. And leading up to that trip, On3 recruiting insider Adam Gorney went ahead and put in his official prediction for the Sooners to beat out well over 20 schools for his services. Could he commit during his official visit in late May?

Oklahoma is hoping to land 4-star athlete Bode Sparrow during his official visit
This of course is a great sign for Venables, who has made Sparrow a top priority this cycle. This of course is not going to be easy, as the 6-2, 195-pounder is also scheduled to take visits in the near future to Oregon, Utah and BYU. With Sparrow being a stud for Davis High in Kaysville, Utah, the assumption was the Utes would be the favorite because he lives roughly 30 minutes away from Salt Lake City.
However, Venables and the Sooners indeed have been showing him a ton of love and OU will be ready to turn his head soon enough for his next trip to Norman. Should Sparrow commit, it would be a monster get for Oklahoma and it would add to the brilliant class - Sparrow is ranked four stars, the No. 4 athlete in the country and No. 69 prospect nationally per the 247Sports Composite.
With Sparrow being labeled as an athlete, keep in mind he's a standout wide receiver and defensive back. However, the Oklahoma staff likes his abilities on the defensive side of the ball, targeting him at safety. Sparrow could be a game-changer at the next level, with Venables hoping he'll be doing so in the SEC with the Sooners.
In the coming weeks, Sparrow is going to be a busy youngster, taking his visits before he gets ready to make his final decision. Oklahoma will get the first opportunity to impress him first, with the Ducks, Utes and Cougars hoping to have a chance to still land him as well.
However, again, could Sparrow shut things down during his OU trip? Should that happen, you'd have to assume he'd let the three other schools know he won't be making his way to campus as scheduled. Still, things are a bit up in the air here, but what we do know is that Oklahoma is in a fantastic spot to potentially get this done - and soon.
