New recruiting prediction reveals Oklahoma isn't done raiding Alabama talent

It looks like the Oklahoma Sooners’ raid of Alabama talent in the heart of Crimson Tide and Tiger territory will continue in the 2028 recruiting cycle.

Rivals Oklahoma recruiting editor Josh McCuistion recently logged an expert prediction for the Sooners to land 2028 four-star wide receiver Dedrick Kimbrough out of Thompson High School in Alabaster, Alabama, which is only about an hour from Tuscaloosa and Bama's campus. Rivals also already gives OU an 84 percent chance of Kimbrough being a Sooner.

Obviously nothing is for sure until there’s pen to paper, and that won’t happen until Dec. 2027 at the earliest, but even just this prediction is already a sign that the Sooners are continuing to hit Alabama hard to make new #BamaSooners.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Kimbrough is the No. 31 wide receiver in the 2028 class and No. 199 overall player. He’s also the No. 10 prospect in the state of Alabama. Kimbrough also has valuable size with speed at 6-foot-3 and 180 pounds. That length is something recent OU rosters have been lacking at receiver.

Last season as a sophomore for Thompson High School, Kimbrough caught 43 passes for 686 yards and five touchdowns. He had 390 receiving yards and three TDs as a freshman in 2024.

That early success has already influenced a lengthy list of offers for Kimbrough, including Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Kentucky, Miami, Mississippi State, Missouri, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt and more. The Sooners, though, have apparently made a better first impression than those other SEC powers and even the in-state programs. Both Bama and Auburn offered him last summer, nearly a year before OU did.

If the projection comes true and Kimbrough really does pledge to the Sooners, it would make three recruiting classes in a row with an Alabama product for OU. Those are the three classes general manager Jim Nagy has had his hand in, as it’s become clear he wants to build a pipeline from Alabama to Norman. And so far it's been flowing with talent.

The Sooners’ 2028 class so far has just one commit early in the cycle with four-star quarterback Trey Tagliaferri, who was initially pledged to Notre Dame. Kimbrough and Tagliaferri could one day be a lethal combo if they really do link up in Norman, while Kimbrough can also strengthen the Sooners' Alabama ties.
