It didn't take long for Oklahoma freshman wide receiver Jayden Petit to show off what he can do and have fans ecstatic for more to come.

OU released a highlight video from the Sooners' spring practice this week of Petit leaping up and over a defender to pull in a touchdown pass. The clip went viral around Sooner Nation as Petit caught everyone's attention with the brief introduction.

The highlight excited fans most because it confirmed Petit is exactly what they've been wanting in a receiver as a towering 6-foot-4 endzone threat for quarterback John Mateer, and one day, for Bowe Bentley. Petit looking like a monster out on the practice field already as a freshman is what turned heads once before during spring camp.

The Sooners convinced Petit to flip from Wisconsin in late November and swiped him less than a week before the Early Signing Period. He was the highest-rated commit in the Badgers' 2026 class at the time as a consensus four-star recruit. According to the 247Sports Composite, Petit was the No. 28 wide receiver in the class and No. 25 player in the state of Florida.

Petit also held offers from Florida, Florida State, Miami, Auburn, Missouri, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Notre Dame and more. The Sooners extended their offer on March 10, 2025, before he broke out for 1,544 receiving yards and 23 touchdowns during his senior season.

The Sooners managing a heist to steal Petit from Wisconsin seems to already be paying off. If he keeps making plays like this throughout the rest of the spring and also during fall camp, it will be hard for head coach Brent Venables to keep a dangerous 6-foot-4 touchdown threat off the field, even as a freshman. Regardless, Petit should be a playmaker for the Sooners for years to come that fans can already be anticipating.
