Jalon Moore took control as Oklahoma beat his former team
The Sooners won one for the SEC.
Oklahoma overcame a four-point halftime deficit to beat Georgia Tech 76-61 on Tuesday night. The game was part of the SEC-ACC Challenge, with the Sooners' win moving the SEC to 9-0 against the ACC on the first day of the conferences facing off. The SEC officially won the challenge before the ACC even notched one win.
The No. 21 Sooners also stayed undefeated and improved to 8-0 with the victory. OU will host a winless Alcorn State next at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Here are some superlatives that stood out from OU's win, including MVP, top play and more.
Game MVP: Jalon Moore
Against his former team, Moore showed out and put up a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. The forward led his team in rebounds and was second in scoring behind freshman star Jeremiah Fears.
Moore was physical all night, getting to the foul line 10 times and missing only one. He also led the team with 36 minutes, as the Sooners were +12 with Moore on the floor.
This is Moore's second season in Norman after transferring from Georgia Tech after his sophomore campaign.
Play of the game
Speaking of Jalon Moore, of course he also had the play of the game with the night he was having.
The Sooners were starting to put the game away up 62-57 with just under five minutes left when Brycen Goodine missed a contested layup. But Moore was there to immediately slam it back as his exclamation point.
Number that stood out: 2
Freshman phenom Jeremiah Fears looked like a freshman in the first half. He got two early boneheaded fouls that had him on the bench most of the first half. And fresh off being named SEC Freshman of the Week, Fears had as many points as fouls in the first half.
Fears first-half woes were a big part in the Sooners being down by four at halftime.
But then Fears looked like the star he is in the second half and proved the Sooners will go as he does this season as they took control of the game from there.
Fears finished with a team-high 18 points, scoring 16 in the second half. He was 10-for-11 at the free-throw line.
Yes, Fears played like a freshman in the first half, which is expected considering he's technically supposed to be a senior in high school, but his bounce back in the second half proved he's the leader this team needs to be successful, no matter his age.
