Oklahoma guard Jeremiah Fears named SEC Freshman of the Week
By Chip Rouse
Oklahoma super freshman Jeremiah Fears capped off a sensational week of Sooner basketball earning SEC Freshman of the Week honors.
Fears helped lead Oklahoma to the championship of the Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas with wins over Providence, then-No. 24 Arizona and Louisville in the title game. The 18-year-old true freshman started all three games, and averaged 18.7 points, 5.3 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 2.7 steals and was named to the all-tournament team.
In addition, he shot 42.4% from the field, 50% (5-of-10) from 3-point range and 88.7% from the free-throw line in the Thanksgiving holiday tournament.
The Oklahoma combo guard tallied 20 points, seven assists and four steals in Oklahoma's 79-77 opening-round tournament win over Providence. He had a game- and season-high 26 points, including four 3-pointers, in an 82-77 second-round victory over Arizona. Fears put up 10 points, four assists and three steals in the championship game against Louisville.
Originally from Chandler, Arizona, Fears now calls Joliet, Illinois home. The No. 24 prospect in the 2025 ESPN 100, Fears is one of three freshman recruits Sooners coach Porter Moser added to the roster this season, along with seven transfers. Fears was originally part of the 2025 recruiting class but reclassified to the 2024 cycle. The OU freshman interestingly chose the Sooners over offers from Arizona and Providence, along with Tennessee, Creighton and others.
Fears has started each of the last four games and has scored in double figures in all seven of Oklahoma's games this season, eclipsing the 20-point level on three occasions.
The talented freshman will be in action again on Tuesday night when the Sooners host Georgia Tech as part of the SEC/ACC Basketball Challenge.
