What seem like uncostly losses for the Oklahoma Sooners right now could eventually add up to something.

OU offensive lineman Jacob Sexton on Tuesday announced that he plans to enter the Transfer Portal with one year of eligibility left once it officially opens on Jan. 2. That made back-to-back days of the portal taking away from the Sooners' offensive line depth after redshirt freshman Isaiah Dent on Monday announced his decision to transfer, giving OU six expected portal departures so far.

"I am thankful for my time at the University of Oklahoma," Sexton wrote in his announcement. "Thank you to my coaches and teammates for playing a major role in my growth both on and off the field. The lessons, relationships, and experiences I've gained in Norman will always stay with me."

Sexton was a local talent from nearby Deer Creek High School in Edmond, Oklahoma, who signed with the Sooners' 2022 class as a consensus four-star recruit and top-10 overall prospect in the state. He immediately made an impact playing in 10 games at left tackle as a true freshman in 2022, but injuries then hindered the rest of Sexton's time in Norman.

In 2023, Sexton played in seven games and made four starts at right tackle. He was again a starter in 2024 between left guard and tackle, but then suffered an injury during the eighth game of the season that sidelined him the rest of the year. This season, Sexton started Week 1 at left tackle, but then, once again, he missed the rest of the season because of injury.

Freshman Michael Fasusi, a five-star recruit, ultimately took over the Sooners' left tackle spot and will likely still have the job in 2026.

Fans were vocally frustrated about how much time Sexton missed, and although he likely couldn't help it, many fans will fairly believe his loss won't hurt since he wasn't available much anyway during his time at OU. However, injuries have consistently plagued the Sooners' entire offensive line the last two seasons, so it could haunt OU in 2026 if it continues to lose depth pieces to the portal.
