Oklahoma defensive back Gentry Williams just can't catch a break.

Williams, a redshirt junior, left the No. 14 Sooners' game against South Carolina on Saturday early in the first quarter with a left shoulder injury. He walked off the field under his own power, but Williams then went back to the locker room at Williams-Brice Stadium and never returned. He spent the rest of the game on the sideline with his arm in a sling.

OU head coach Brent Venables said after the game that Williams' initial X-rays were "clear," so it seems Williams avoided a serious injury. Venables likely won't give more details about Williams' status during Tuesday's weekly press conference, so fans will have to wait for the first SEC Availability Report on Wednesday to learn more about Williams' status when the Sooners host Ole Miss.

Williams had already missed one game this season against Temple after missing almost all of last season. He suffered a season-ending shoulder injury during the Sooners' second game of the season last year. Williams started in and played in 10 games in 2023.

This season, Williams has 10 tackles, a tackle for loss and two pass breakups in five games at cornerback. He's tallied multiple tackles in every game but against Kent State this year.

Freshman Courtland Guillory came in at corner to replace Williams, with Eli Bowen on the other side.

The Sooners were also without defensive back Kendel Dolby against South Carolina, but that was the only defender listed on the SEC Availability Report this week for OU.
