Oklahoma injury update: Who the Sooners will be without vs. South Carolina

It's not a short list for the Sooners.

There wasn’t quite the suspense Oklahoma fans had last week about the status of quarterback John Mateer, but the Sooners still have a lengthy list of players they’ll be without for their first SEC road trip of the season.

The No. 14 Sooners play South Carolina at 11:45 a.m. CT Saturday in Columbia and, according to the SEC Availability Report, OU will for sure be without some offensive linemen who have been regulars on the injury report and a surprise addition the night before the game.

Kendel Dolby, Keontez Lewis, Jovantae Barnes injury update

After not popping up on the SEC Availability Report all week, defensive back Kendel Dolby was all of a sudden listed as out on Friday night. It doesn’t appear to be a new issue, though, considering Dolby played only four snaps against Texas last week. He also missed the first two games of the season because of a lingering injury after being sidelined almost all of last year.

Dolby has nine tackles and two tackles for loss in four games this season as a redshirt senior.

Running back Jovantae Barnes and wide receiver Keontez Lewis were both downgraded to out on Friday night’s report. Barnes was relegated each day this week after being questionable on Wednesday, then doubtful on Thursday. Barnes, who has been OU’s RB2 most of the season, already missed the Sooners’ last two games.

Lewis was listed as questionable all week until Friday. He was expected to be sidelined against Texas, but it was a surprise when Lewis’ name appeared this week after playing in the Red River Rivalry.

Two weeks ago against Kent State, Lewis crashed headfirst into the brick wall behind the end zone at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. He was down for over 10 minutes before being carted off the field during what was a scary scene. Lewis avoided anything serious, though, and still played a week later.

As expected, offensive linemen Troy Everett, Jacob Sexton, Jake Taylor and Logan Howland will also be out, as well as tight end Kade McIntyre.

South Carolina is dealing with similar injury issues up front like the Sooners. The Gamecocks will for sure be without four players in wide receiver Brian Rowe Jr., offensive linemen Nolan Hay and Cason Henry, and defensive lineman Davonte Miles. Offensive lineman Jatavius Shivers is also a game-time decision.
