After losing a quarterback recruit to Florida State this summer, the Oklahoma Sooners are looking to return the favor.

Defensive lineman James "Tank" Carrington announced on Thursday that decommitted from the Seminoles and was back on the market after pledging to Florida State in June. Then, just a few hours after Carrington's announcement, Rivals' Steve Wiltfong logged an expert prediction for the Sooners to land Carrington with a 60% confidence level.

The hope is maybe the Sooners can finally be the ones to get Carrington to settle down as he enters his high school senior season at his fourth different school and one decommitment on his resume. Starting his preps career in Baltimore, Carrington keeps getting further west after moves to Georgia, then powerhouse Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas and finally to Crean Lutheran High School in California.

Listed at 6-foot-2 and 270 pounds, Carrington is a consensus three-star recruit. According to the 247Sports Composite, he's the No. 63 DL in the 2026 class and became the No. 42 prospect in California after his most recent move. He was named a Navy All-American after his junior season.

Oklahomans would also be intrigued to know that Carrington has experience on the mat as an NHSCA All-American and Maryland state runner-up wrestler.

The Sooners have been after Carrington since offering him last June. His loaded list of offers includes Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas A&M, USC and more.

Carrington would be the second defensive lineman added to OU's 2026 class. It's a position head coach Brent Venables and general manager Jim Nagy have wanted to emphasize in recruiting classes with the Sooners' move to the SEC.

The Sooners already beat out Alabama for three-star DL Brian Harris. OU has also added three edge rushers to its future defensive front, most recently and notably Jake Kreul, who made his announcement on "The Pat McAfee Show" as a five-star recruit, according to ESPN.
