Commitments in college football today don't mean as much as they used to, but Oklahoma fans have no need to worry about 2027 four-star defensive line commit Elija Harmon and his plans to be a Sooner.

Harmon on Sunday, after being in Norman over the weekend for an official visit during OU's ChampU BBQ recruiting event, announced via X that he has shut down his recruitment and is 100% committed to the Sooners after being pledged to OU since Dec. 7.

"Let’s do it Sooner Nation, I’m ALL IN," Harmon wrote in his post on X. "Time to shut it down."

Harmon has also shown he's bought into OU even without the announcement. He's been active on social media in recruiting fellow 2027 prospects and also celebrates when the Sooners land another commitment, including on Monday when four-star cornerback Gabriel Osborne Jr. made his decision known.

Harmon already has the makings to be a fan-favorite once in Oklahoma, especially if he reaches his potential. According to the 247Sports Composite, Harmon, listed at 6-foot-3 and 280 pounds, is the No. 31 interior defensive lineman in the 2027 class. He's also the No. 23 overall player in the state of California, where the Sooners have started to recruit heavily.

He's the highest-rated interior defensive lineman committed to the Sooners' 2027 class so far, based on the 247Sports Composite. Fellow commit Deven Robertson is ranked 48th at the position and Sione Felila is at No. 84. Harmon was also the first interior defensive lineman added to the group.

Harmon's other offers included Arizona, Auburn, Cal, Florida, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon, SMU, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, UCLA, USC, Utah and more. Despite the loaded list of offers, including new ones even since his commitment, Harmon has not taken a reported visit anywhere else since pledging to the Sooners. That's extremely rare in recruiting today.

A guy as all in as Harmon is massive for a program, not just on the field as a potential starter in Brent Venables' defense, but for the Sooners' locker room and culture of the future. This type of buy-in likely won't die after Harmon signs, but will continue during his time in the OU locker room. The future is unpredictable, but these early signs of loyalty give hope for Harmon to complete his career with the Sooners, which fans have learned not to anticipate in the transfer portal era.
