The Philadelphia Eagles just revealed a scary situation for former Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts, who’s in Year 7 of his NFL career.
The Eagles released a statement on Thursday to announce that Hurts will be out of Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers because of a superficial blood clot in his calf that has gotten worse since he played through the issue last week.

Jalen Hurts sidelined after injury scare in London
The Eagles just returned from a trip to London, where they lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars. The recent statement revealed that the blood clot was actually found the day before the game, but “medical staff and doctors in London reviewed the results and concluded that activity and mobility were important and that Jalen could safely play.”
Hurts went to the training staff last Thursday to request treatment after getting cleated in the Eagles’ loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Oct. 4. That would have been four days since the injury and after practicing on that Wednesday and Thursday. He then received treatment and practiced again on Friday.
Then, after arriving in London on Saturday, the medical staff performed an ultrasound, which revealed the blood clot. The team decided it was still safe for Hurts to play, as long as he got another ultrasound within 72 hours of the game once back in Philadelphia.
Hurts “played without limitation" while throwing for 220 yards and a touchdown. He was limited, though, to only two rushing yards on two attempts, which was his lowest carry total so far this season. He had only one game last season with two carries.
Once back in Philadelphia, Hurts got treatment on Monday and Tuesday before practicing on Wednesday. Hurts was asked about the injury after practice but didn’t reveal much information and said he was “nicked up” in the game against the Rams.

Another ultrasound on Wednesday night then “revealed movement in the small blood clot,” which ultimately prompted the Eagles to rule Hurts out for Week 6. Tanner McKee will start at QB for the Eagles in place of Hurts, however long that might be.
Hurts could be sidelined beyond just this week. He won’t return to the field until this issue is fully resolved, which is obviously the right call. That will hinder the Eagles even more as they struggle early on at 2-3. Hurts has completed 57.8% of his passes for 933 yards with eight touchdowns and three interceptions. He also has 107 rushing yards on 23 carries.
Right now, though, helping the Eagles get back on track should be the least of Hurts’ concerns, as his personal health should be the top priority before football.
