Unlike 247Sports, Rivals is going off what they've already witnessed from Oklahoma offensive tackle commit Cooper Hackett instead of what they won't see during the 2026 season. And that's exactly how it should be considering Hackett hasn't actually changed as a prospect, especially as much as 247Sports believes.
Hackett on Monday maintained five-star status after Rivals' latest rankings update, which listed him as the No. 12 overall prospect in the 2027 class and No. 2 offensive tackle. It was a subtle drop from No. 5 in Rivals' previous rankings that were released in April, but it still didn't compare to the preposterous free fall Hackett experienced when 247Sports rolled out its new rankings just last month.

Cooper Hackett's injury continues to influence drop in recruiting rankings
With the update also upgrading OU cornerback commit Gabriel Osborne Jr. to five stars, the Sooners' 2027 class now includes three five-star recruits with Hackett, Osborne and tight end Seneca Driver, based on Rivals' ratings. According to 247Sports, the Sooners have a pair of five-star commits in Osborne and offensive tackle Kaeden Penny.
When 247Sports released its newest batch of rankings in June, Hackett took a shocking tumble of 74 spots from No. 41 to No. 115. He's also now listed as the No. 17 offensive tackle in his class. There's really no way 16 other players at Hackett's position are better than him.
That recent drop was already after a slow plunge over the previous few months before as 247Sports ranked Hackett as the No. 9 overall prospect just over a year ago. In March, Hackett lost his five-star status by 247Sports after slipping to No. 41 and the top 32 prospects earning five stars. ESPN also has Hackett as a four-star recruit.
So what changed? Nothing but news of Hackett undergoing a recent offseason shoulder surgery that will sideline him for his entire senior season at Fort Gibson High School (OK). That still shouldn't alter the perspective of Hackett as a recruit, though. It was nothing he could help and he'll still be the same player when he returns. Regardless, Hackett's recruiting ratings have suffered since the news broke in May.
According to the 247Sports Composite, which averages 247Sports, Rivals and ESPN recruiting ratings, Hackett is the No. 48 player in the 2027 class as a four-star prospect. He's the No. 5 offensive tackle and No. 3 overall player in the state of Oklahoma.
No one's composite score in the entire 2027 class seems to vary as dramatically as Hackett's between the three major outlets' analysis. That would lead some to believe the jury is still out on Hackett, but there was really already enough evidence to prove he's a five-star recruit. Somehow, no new evidence changed the stance.

It won't be until he is wearing crimson and cream in 2027 that Hackett can start proving these recruiting ratings wrong. In the end, it all comes down to where he's ultimately selected in the NFL Draft.
Already listed at 6-foot-7 and 250 pounds and with freak athleticism as a basketball standout with excellent footwork, it's clear already to anyone paying attention that Hackett has all the intangibles to add to the Sooners' legacy of producing first-round offensive line talent, no matter what recruiting ratings show right now.
