There will be millions of brackets filled out before the first round of the NCAA Tournament tips off on Thursday, so surely at least one has the Oklahoma Sooners making a run, even if it doesn't seem like anyone has hope.
FanSided compiled a group of nine of some of the most well-known college experts from numerous outlets and listed how they filled out their March Madness bracket.
Those experts included Bill Bender (Sporting News), Andy Katz (Bleacher Report), Nicole Auerbach (NBC Sports), John Fanta (FOX Sports), Michael Cohen (FOX Sports), Matt Norlander (CBS Sports), Jay Bilas (ESPN), Jon Rothstein (CBS Sports) and Mike DeCourcy (Sporting News).
Of the nine, none predicted the Sooners to even get past the UConn Huskies in the first round. However, it is hard to blame anyone outside of Sooner Nation to not believe in a 20-13 OU team with a losing conference record and such a daunting draw.
The Huskies have won the past two national titles, so there's certainly more faith in Dan Hurley than Porter Moser. This season, UConn is 23-10 with some rough stretches, but nothing like OU's two losing streaks. Although, the Sooners competed in a much tougher conference.
For those that did predict the Sooners to get past UConn, they would then most likely have the 1-seed Florida Gators waiting in the second round. The Gators just won the SEC Men's Basketball Tournament and are one of the most popular picks to win it all.
There is reason to believe in these Sooners, though. Some experts will say recency bias prevails in the NCAA Tournament, so pick the hot team. OU heated up down the stretch and won three in a row within a week to even get into the NCAA Tournament.
I'm sure none of these experts had faith in Moser either before he led Loyola Chicago to the Final Four in 2018, then to the Sweet 16 in 2021.
Regardless, no matter how much basketball someone has watched or how well they understand deep analytics, there's a reason there's never been a perfect bracket. And the Sooners need all the madness they can get.
