The Oklahoma Sooners just lost some NFL Draft bragging rights to the Alabama Crimson Tide, even if just briefly.

The Sooners entered the 2026 NFL Draft on Thursday night with the most draft picks all-time in the SEC with 419. In the first round, though, while no Sooners had their name called, two Alabama players were selected with offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor and quarterback Ty Simpson going back-to-back at Nos. 12 and 13. Ultimately, Simpson being a surprise first-round selection to the Los Angeles Rams gave Bama the draft pick lead in the SEC with 420, unless OU actually ends up with more players selected by the end of the seventh round on Saturday.

Next on the list with the most all-time draft picks is Georgia, which added one more Thursday night to get to 393. Texas, with no first-round selections, dropped below Florida to seventh with 380.

Ty Simpson gives Bama SEC bragging rights unless Sooners outnumber

There was a chance the Sooners could have went into Day 2 of the draft at least still tied for the lead. Edge rusher R Mason Thomas was a fringe first-round pick, even up to the day of, but for the most part, it was anticipated that he would slip out of the first round, which he did. It was the second year in a row an OU player didn't go on Day 1.

The Sooners have nine prospects who could still get selected over the next two days and six rounds between edge rushers Thomas and Marvin Jones Jr., defensive tackles Gracen Halton and Damonic Williams, wide receiver Deion Burks, tight end Jaren Kanak, running back Jaydn Ott, linebacker Kendal Daniels, and safety Robert Spears-Jennings. However, a few could also still go undrafted this week without tallying more picks for OU.

Bama, though, will likely outpace the Sooners this draft with 14 prospects from a roster that went 1-1 against OU in 2025. By Saturday, this title of best NFL Draft producer in the SEC will likely still belong with the Crimson Tide. The Sooners, though, still have a 5-2 record against Bama this century as the only SEC team with a winning record over the Crimson Tide during that time.
