Holieway is cut from the same cloth as Steve Davis, just 10 years later. Holieway did surpass 2,000 yards in the air, but barely. On the ground, he rushed for 2,699 yards and 56 touchdowns across three seasons.

In 1985, his first year as the starting quarterback for Barry Switzer’s team, Holieway led the Sooners to the fifth national title in program history with 861 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns. That would hold as his career high output on the ground. Holieway only got the job as a freshman because of an injury to Troy Aikman.

Coming from a run-first offense, Holieway could not find a job in the NFL.
