Oklahoma basketball: Sooners make huge jump to No. 11 in Associated Press Top 25

A couple of weeks ago the men’s Oklahoma basketball team broke into the nation’s top 25 for the first time in three seasons at No, 25.
This week, following a week that saw convincing wins over major programs Providence and
Arkansas, the undefeated Sooners (9-0) are on the doorstep of the top 10, sitting at No, 11 in the Associated Press Top 25.
Oklahoma jumped eight spots in the Week 6 AP poll and 10 positions in the Coaches Poll, to No. 12. Three Big 12 teams (Kansas, Houston and Baylor) are ranked in the top 10 this week with OU knocking on the door. In all, six teams from the conference are ranked in the top 25 and three others received votes.
BYU, like Oklahoma, was picked to finish at the bottom of the Big 12 this season in a preseason vote of the league coaches. to start the season and are ranked 18th in the AP poll and 17th in the Coaches Poll. That’s actually several spots lower than a week ago after the Cougars (8-1) suffered their first loss of the season over the weekend.
Texas (7-2) is ranked 19th in the AP Top 25 and 22nd in this week’s Coaches Poll.
The Big 12 leads all conferences with six teams ranked in the top 25. The Big Ten and ACC each feature four ranked teams.
Arizona (8-0) and Kansas (9-1) are Nos. 1 and 2 in both weekly polls. Purdue and Houston are 3 and 4, respectively, in the AP poll, and they reverse order in the Coaches Poll.
Oklahoma is off for finals until Saturday, when they will host the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay out of the Horizon League.
