Chuck Fairbanks bridged the gap between Bud Wilkinson and Barry Switzer and Oklahoma and a tie in the 1970 Bluebonnet Bowl is emblematic of his six-year tenure. It was good, but not good enough. He had three seasons with double-digit wins, and finished second in the country twice, his last two seasons.
