4. Jackson Arnold, freshman

One of the quarterbacks likely isn’t making the trip from the Big 12 to the SEC on this roster. Arnold is a five-star freshman who was the No. 10 overall recruit in 2023 and in very limited work this season, has looked good as Dillon Gabriel’s backup. He just won’t want to be Gabriel’s backup again.

Despite already playing five years of college football, Gabriel has another year of eligibility left from the COVID-19 season and could return to start for the Sooners in 2024. Arnold probably has plans to head to the NFL and another season on the bench will only prolong that process.

If Gabriel returns, then I could see Arnold transferring somewhere else for playing time. If Venables is ready to transition to Arnold, then Gabriel will likely head to the portal to find a third and final team.
