Oklahoma football: Sooners add a 3rd and 4th commitment from same high school
By Chip Rouse
The 2024 Oklahoma football recruiting class is highly ranked and nearly complete, and work has already begun in earnest on the 2025 class.
On Thursday, the Sooners earned a commitment from three-star linebacker Marcus James from Carl Albert High School in nearby Oklahoma City. James’ 2025 commitment was expected, but Oklahoma got a surprise announcement along with it.
In addition to James, the Sooners also gained a pledge from his Carl Albert teammate Trynae Washington.
Four of Oklahoma’s seven 2025 commitments are from Carl Albert High School. This may be a first in Sooner football history that four recruits from the same high school are part of two consecutive OU recruiting classes. And Washington says he is working on a fifth teammate to be part of the 2025 OU class.
According to 247Sports, the 6-foot, 3-inch, 215-pound James is the No. 45 linebacker in the class nationally and the No. 10 player in the state of Oklahoma. He chose to stay home and play for the Sooners, spurning offers from Utah, Texas A&M, Arkansas and TCU.
Washington is rated as a three-star athlete prospect by 247Sports. He plays both wide receiver and safety in high school. There is a good chance the 6-foot, 3-inch, 195-pounder will be moved to defense, given that there are two wide receivers already committed to the 2025 class and the depth expected at the position by the time Washington arrives on campus.
The two new recruits OU picked up on Thursday will join Carl Albert teammates RB Xavier Robinson, who is committed for 2024 and 2025 QB commit Kevin Sperry.
