The Oklahoma football series with Iowa State is one of the longest in Sooner history. It is also the most lopsided, with OU winning 79 of the 88 games.

The 89th game in the series will be played at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium on Saturday night, and it could be the final one with the Sooners leaving the Big 12 for the SEC next season.

As one-sided as the all-time series has been between Oklahoma and Iowa State, however, it has been anything but that way since Matt Campbell took over the head coach’s duties for the Cyclones in 2016. Campbell owns a record of 50-46 in his seven seasons at ISU. He is just 2-6 against the Sooners during that time, but those are two of the seven total wins Iowa State has in the series. Moreover, the average margin of victory in the last eight games is 7.8 points.

What has made the Cyclones so tough for the high-powered, high-scoring Sooners in recent years has been an elite Iowa State defense that still ranks among the nation’s best. Iowa State comes into Saturday’s game with OU as the country’s 19th-ranked team defensively and No. 22 in defending the pass.
