Only one Oklahoma football player was named to the 2023 Preseason All-Big 12 Team selected by media who cover the conference.

With most college teams now back hard at it in preseason training camp and with the start of the college football season less than a month away, anticipation for fall football is rapidly starting to build.

Another media source has a different view of the Sooners’ representation on the preseason all-conference team. College Sports Wire lists five Oklahoma players on its 2023 Preseason All-Big 12 roster.

Oklahoma junior edge- rusher Ethan Downs is on both All-Big 12 teams. College Sports Wire has three OU offensive players and two defensive players making the All Big-12 first or second team.

Running back Jovantae Barnes joins Downs as a CSW preseason All-Big 12 first team selection.

Named to the second team are tight end Austin Stogner, LB Danny Stutsman and center Andrew Raym.

Downs tied for the lead on the Oklahoma team last season with 4.5 sacks, two of the sacks along with seven tackles of loss coming in his final three Big 12 games.

Barnes rushed for over 500 yards as a true freshman and was second on the Sooner team behind Eric Gray in rushing yards.

Stogner played for two seasons at OU before transferring to South Carolina after the 2021 season. Stogner is a big addition this season to the Sooner roster, which lacks for experience at the TE position.

Raym is one of two returning Oklahoma starters on the offensive line. Health issues have limited his talent ceiling, but if he can remain on the field he has NFL-worthy talent.

Stutsman is a returning starter at linebacker, and with a full year in Brent Venables’ defensive system under his belt, he should be an even bigger contributor this season.
