Oklahoma’s football bowl history includes 56 total bowl appearances, tied for the fourth most at the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision level.

The Sooners missed out on a bowl assignment in the first three years of the Big 12, but they have been every year since, a total of 24 consecutive bowl appearances, second only to Georgia (26).

According to the Las Vegas handicappers, Oklahoma should be in line this season to extend its active run of consecutive bowl appearances. But where the Sooners will spend their postseason holiday will be determined by where they finish in the conference standings and how that aligns with the Big 12 bowl prioritization process.

The Big 12’s bowl affiliations and priority order for the 2023-2024 bowl season feature placement for seven and potentially nine conference teams that become bowl eligible by winning at least six regular-season games.

If the winner of the Big 12 is not one of the four teams selected for the College Football Playoff, it is guaranteed a spot in the Sugar Bowl. But because the Sugar Bowl is the site of one of the CFP national semifinal games this season, the winner of the Big 12 will play in one of the other New Year’s Six bowls (Cotton Bowl, Peach Bowl, Orange Bowl or Fiesta Bowl).

Next in line is the Valero Alamo Bowl in San Antonio, Texas, which is where the second-place Big 12 team (or runner-up in the Big 12 Championship) will be headed.

Here is how the rest of the Big 12 bowl assignments will be decided:

3rd place: Pop Tarts Bowl (Orlando, Florida) vs. ACC team

4th place: TaxAct Texas Bowl (Houston, Texas) vs. SEC team

5th place: AutoZone Liberty Bowl (Memphis, Tennessee) vs. SEC team

6th place: Guaranteed Rate Bowl (Phoenix, Arizona) vs. Big Ten team

7th place: Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl (Shreveport, Louisiana) vs. Pac-12 team

Two other potential bowl hookups exist for Big 12 bowl hopefuls:

Lockhead Martin Armed Forces Bowl (Ft. Worth, Texas) vs. American Athletic, Conference USA or Pac-12

SERVPRO First Responder Bowl (Dallas, Texas) vs. ACC, American Athletic or Pac-12
