OL Tyler Guyton

A transfer from TCU, Tyler Guyton played in 10 games, five of them starts, for Oklahoma in the 2022 season. He is expected to be No. 1 on the depth chart at right tackle this season, replacing Wanya Morris, who was a 2023 NFL Draft pick.

The 6-foot, 7-inch, 315-pounder may have the highest ceiling of all of the anticipated Sooner starting offensive linemen this season. The only thing holding him back is inexperience, but offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh, one of the best in college football, has seen enough to believe Guyton could be Oklahoma’s next great offensive lineman.

And the Sooners and Bedenbaugh have seen quite a few great ones come through OU. The likes of which include recently Anton Harrison, Creed Humphrey, Orlando Brown, Marquis Hayes, Ben Powers, Dru Samia, Bobby Evans and Cody Ford, just to name a few. All are now in the NFL.

“He (Guyton) started, I think, five or six games (last season), but he’s got all the talent in the world,” Bedenbaugh said during spring practice. “One of the most talented guys I’ve ever seen.”

Bedenbaugh says Guyton has the kind of talent the great ones had who have come through Norman, and he believes he has the potential to get even better.

“He’s preparing the right way,” the Sooner O-line coach says. “He’s doing things outside of here the right way. You hope that everybody has it when they come here. It’s just not reality, you know, and they learned it. He’s doing it now.”

This could be the season, barring injury, that Guyton finally gets to show his worth and potential. If that is the case, it will go a long ways toward answering some of the questions experts have raised about the quality of the Sooners’ offensive line entering the 2023 season.
