Oklahoma baseball rewind: Sooners sweep Gonzaga in tune-up for Bedlam

Oklahoma baseball got ready for its final week of the regular season with a three-game series sweep over Gonzaga at Patterson Baseball Complex in Spokane, Washington, over the weekend.
The Sooner bats were en feugo for the third straight game against Gonzaga. pounding out 15 hits on the way to a 9-1 triumph and a series sweep of the Zags.
Anthony Mackenzie and Bryce Madron each has three hits for OU on Sunday. Three other Sooners posted two hits, and eight of the nine Oklahoma starters in the lineup had at least one hit in contributing to the win in the series finale.
Redshirt sophomore James Hitt got the start for the Sooners on Sunday and worked 7.0 innings, giving up just one run on eight hits and striking out five. Carson Pierce came on in relief in the eighth and worked the final two innings. Hitt was credited with the victory, his fifth of the seaon without a loss.
Mackenzie and Madron each had six hits in the three games with Gonzaga. Mackenzie was 6 for 11 and batted .545 for the weekend, while Madron was 6 of 13, a .462 batting average.
Although the Sooners outscored the Zags 33 to 15 in the three games and outhit them 44 to 38, Oklahoma hit just one home run in the series. That belonged to Mackenzie, who launched a three-run shot in OU’s 19-12 win on Saturday.
With the three-game weekend sweep, Oklahoma improved to 29-22 for the season. The weekend series at Gonzaga completes a seven-game road swing for the Sooners, who return home for a midweek contest on Tuesday, hosting the University of Texas-Arlington at L. Dale Mitchell Park. OU will close out the regular season with a Bedlam showdown against Oklahoma State (35-15, 13-8) in Norman this coming weekend.
