Oklahoma softball: Straightaways from another Sooner shutout
By Chip Rouse
It wasn’t your typical Oklahoma softball game score-wise, but what was typical was the no runs allowed by Sooner pitchers in a 6-0 midweek road win over Tulsa.
The Sooners (46-1, 15-0) scored twice in the third inning on two hits and an error to break up a scoreless game, and that was all the scoring by either team until the top of the seventh.
Oklahoma managed just two runs and five hits through six strong innings by Tulsa starting pitcher Kylee Nash. Tiare Jennings and Grace Lyons walked to open the seventh. With one out and two on, Maura Moore came on in relief of Nash for Tulsa. Moore got OU pinch-hitter Quincee Lilio to strike out but walked Sophia Nugent to load the bases and bring up Alyssa Brito with the sacks filled and two out.
Brito hit the third pitch from Moore over the left-field fence, and just like that, a 2-0 game became 6-0 with the Hurricane facing their last three outs. It was Brito’s 12th home-run blast of the season.
Alex Storako, the last of four OU pitchers, gave up a single to open the ninth but then struck out the next two batters and got an infield pop-up to end the game.
Sophomore right-hander Jordy Bahl started the game for the Sooners and went three complete innings, allowing no runs and no hits, striking out three and walking no one. She was followed in the circle by Nicole May, who was credited with her 15th win of the season, and freshman Kierston Deal.
The Sooners won their 38th consecutive game in a good tune up for the upcoming weekend showdown with in-state rival and 9th-ranked Oklahoma State in Stillwater.
