Oklahoma softball: Sooners sweep Big 12 Player, Pitcher of the Week awards

For the third time this season a pair of Oklahoma softball players have swept Big 12 weekly honors.

Junior outfielder Jayda Coleman earned her second Big 12 Player of the Week honor and sophomore pitcher Jordy Bahl also received her second Pitcher of the Week honor of the 2023 season.

Both Sooner players were key contributors to Oklahoma’s three-game series sweep over Kansas this past weekend.

Coleman had a batting average of .667, going six for nine at the plate with two home runs, a pair of doubles, six runs batted in, five runs scored and 14 total bases. She hit home runs in back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday. She leads OU and the Big 12 with a .465 batting average and is the team leader in home runs (13), on-base percentage (.582) and slugging percentage (.882).

Coleman is also one of five Oklahoma finalists for the USA Softball 2023 National Player of the Year award.

Bahl pitched 6.2 scoreless innings in two appearances over the weekend. She started and was the complete-game winning pitcher in OU’s 8-0 win in the series opener with Kansas on Friday. She allowed no runs and just four hits in Friday’s start, struck out seven and didn’t walk anybody in posting her 14th win of the season. She also recorded the final five outs on Sunday in relief of Alex Storako in OU’s 8-2 win.

For the season, Bahl is 14.1 and ranks third in the Big 12 and on the team with a 1.10 ERA.

Bahl and OU teammate Tiare Jennings swept the Big 12 weekly awards on April 4.

Four different Sooners have been named Player of the Week in the conference this year (Coleman twice, Jennings, Grace Lyons and Haley Lee). In addition to Bahl, Alex Storako has earned Pitcher of the Week recognition.
