The men’s Oklahoma basketball team added a fourth transfer to the 2023-24 roster on Thursday with a commitment from former Utah Valley guard Le’Tre Darthard.
In three seasons at Utah Valley, the 6-foot, 4-inch Darthard averaged 10.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. His best season was this past one. He started all 37 games in 2022-23 and averaged 13.8 points and 3.5 rebounds on 42-percent shooting from the field. He was an All-WAC First-Team selection and was named to the conference’s all-defensive team this past season as well.
Darthard helped lead Utah Valley to a 28-9 record in 2022-23 and a spot in the postseason National Invitation Tournament. He scored at least 10 points in 22 games this past season and five games in which he scored at least 25 points. His high game was a 31-point performance in the season-opening game against Southern Utah.
Darthard shot 36 percent behind the three-point line this past season, which should help the Sooners’ three-point shooting, which was 35 percent in 2022-23 but could and should be better. His offensive efficiency (117) and defensive efficiency (97) numbers rank among the best in the nation.
Darthard will be joined in the Oklahoma backcourt next season by returning sophomores Milos Uzan and Otega Oweh as well as fellow transfer Javian McCollum, who comes to the Sooners from Siena, and Rivaldo Soares, who is transferring to OU from Oregon.
Oklahoma has also added 6-foot, 9-inch forward John Hugley from Pittsburgh. By my count, OU has two open scholarships to fill for next season.
Darthard will have one season of college eligibility remaining. He played his freshman season at McCook (Nebraska) Community College.
